Digital Scrapbooking on Your iPad, iPhone or iTouch
Did you know you can create digital scrapbook pages on your iPad, iPhone or iTouch? There are several Apple apps available for digital scrapbooking.
Why would you want to create a digital scrapbook page on your iPad or iPhone? I use them to create cards or when I share pictures it is fun to create a layout. I am also addicted to digital scrapbooking and to gadgets, so blending the two is very exciting!
Coolibah – iPad/iPhone – Free
Both versions of the Coolibah app come with a few free kits to start your pages and offer in-app purchases of additional kits. The available kits are designed by some of the digital scrapbook designers you see at the online stores. The iPad version is easier to use because you have more space, but you can still create small layouts on the iPhone. There is a huge variety of kits available for Coolibah. This is the app that I use the most. Coolibah also has additional kits that are free, so you have a good amount to try out.
TapnScrap – iPhone – $1.99 TapnScrap HD – iPad – $4.99
The TapnScrap for iPhone comes with some supplies to start with and also provides in-app purchases of additional kits. There are quite a few kits available, but I didn’t find many that I wanted to spend my money on to purchase. The TapnScrap HD version is the same as the iPhone version only larger.
eScrap App – iPhone – $1.99 eScrap Lite – iPhone – Free
This app is from the scrapbooking company, Die Cuts With a View which you may be familiar with if you are a paper scrapbooker. The kits in this app are awesome. Very professionally designed and beautiful. the Lite version is free to try, but I recommend spending the $1.99 for the full app. There is not an iPad version of this app, but I hope they will come out with one soon. This app is good for designing layouts with 1 photo and few elements.
ScrapPad – iPad – $4.99
The ScrapPad app is a lot of fun to play with also. It is a bit more expensive, but you get a lot of kits to start with and additional kits are $.99. Each kit comes with a lot of elements and backgrounds. I just purchased this one today to try out for this post and I think this is one I will use a lot more. It is definitely worth the extra money.
ScrapApp – iPad – $4.99
This app is the most like digital scrapbooking on your desktop. You can layer, add shadows, change transparency and many other things. If you have never scrapbooked digitally before, this one might be a bit confusing. If you know your way around Photoshop CS or Elements, this will be a breeze for you. There are quite a few elements included. I could not find a place to purchase more elements.
All of these apps are great for creating a small layout wherever you are. It’s a fun way to scrapbook while standing in line or on the airplane, but I wouldn’t consider these my main digital scrapbooking tools. I would start with Coolibah because it is free and offers a variety of options to start.
Have you tried any of these apps? What do you think about digital scrapbooking on your iPhone or iPad?
Disclosure: I purchased all of the above apps on my own.

Great post! I cannot WAIT to get an iPad. I’ve tried Digital Scrapbooking on the iPhone and it’s to small:( I also love “comic” style photo apps. Those work okay on the iPhone.
I want to use my new iPad for digital scrapbooking. I hope apple develops more apps. It will be one of the major factor inmaking decision to abandon pc and convert to mac
Have you tried printing any of the layout you created? I live to take my digiscrap pages and create photobooks that can be printed. I tried using a layout created with scrappad, but the site I uploaded to for creating a photobook said the DPI was too low. I have not tried uploading a coolibah layout yet? Also, have you heard of a great app on the iPad for making printable photobooks? I would love to be able to do everything right on the iPad.
Thanks,
Leslie
I am a student teacher currently, and I use the digital scrap apps coolish and scrap pad. Both work amazingly well to do personal digi scrapping and for me – work and documentation of the children. They print out on regular 8.5 by 11 paper beautifully.
I would like to publish my scrapbook. I mean I would like to do the layout and then upload it to a publisher to get a hard copy. Can I co this with an app for Ipad? I like the idea of sitting in my chair and doing the work
Thanks Becky
I am in the same boat as Leslie and Becky, and want to be able to get my layouts published, through a service like shutterfly. Has anyone been able to do this?
