My Son, The Athlete
My son wants to play football. He just informed me of this fact last week. Sadly, the football registration deadline is long past and the season has already begun. He’s sad. But I tried to remedy the situation by offering a chance to play soccer. He says, “soccer is boring”.
Admittedly, I was a little relieved to hear him say that because the practices are on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings and there is no way we can make it to Thursday practices because of my grad school classes.
I offered the alternative of swimming lessons but he was adamantly opposed to that idea. “My nose gets so stuffy in the water!” he says. I explained to my son that he isn’t supposed to breathe while underwater, but he hadn’t quite mastered that concept yet. Clearly, more swimming lessons are needed.
So, I guess the only other option is basketball. Registration is open right now for the league closest to our home. I have to make a point to go and get information about the practice times and cost. I’m proud that my boy had become so interested in sports. I just hope we can make the necessary adjustments in our already crazy family schedule so he’ll be able to play basketball this fall.
