When you blow up expect the “haters” – Check out Mary Mary.
Mary, Mary, quite contrary,
How does your garden grow?
Well, if you look at the Gospel recording stars, Mary Mary – it’s growing quite nicely. They have won multiple awards, including three Grammys. And now they have a hit reality TV show on, WE Network.
And, it’s well deserved and they are just living what they’ve been singing.
For instance…their hit songs have told us:
1. They took off their “SHACKLES” of their feet so they can dance. They had been feeling “like the hope is gone, But as I lift my hands, I understand that I should praise you through my circumstance!” So they blazed a hit that took “the shackles off” their feet and created their first major HIT!
2. Then they got rid of excuses to “GET UP” and produced another hit. In this music video the main character is a young girl auditioning for a dance contest. As she feels frighten to go after it, she gets motivated and goes in front of the judges. They “welcomed the rest of their life… with a promise to themselves to just try, live more, want more, work at little harder, be a little smarter”…
3. And then as they enjoyed their success, the “haters” came out – and they reminded us that it was the “GOD IN ME.” They heard people saying “You’re so fly your so high, Everbody around you trying to figure out why. You’re so cool you win all the time. Everywhere you go, man, you get alot of shine!” But they pointed folks to GOD. Explaining in the song you don’t know how much I prayed and how much I gave.
My favorite lines:
You think I’m so fresh. You think I’m so clean
You think I’m so sweet. It’s the God in me
(Personal note, this was my theme song for an entire year in 2009. See this video of me opening with it in one of my presentations).
4. Yeah, they knew “SOMETHING BIG” was about to explode. They sang about not “keeping God in a box” and they put another project out that also became another a top Billboard hit. They sang about how they “gotta be big ’cause God is bigger than music.”
5. And hey, then finally, as they debuted on Good Morning America, blowing up Twitter and Facebook with millions of followers and the highly successful reality TV show, Mary Mary on WETV.com.
Their new song, Go Get It, is by far, the one they message that represents their life.
It took ten years (really 12) for them to be what folks are saying an “overnight” success.
Folks not familiar with this Gospel duo are calling them all kind of names but children of God. They are saying they are too worldly. Not modest. Too flashy. Too this and that.
But Tina and Erica Campbell (Mary Mary) really don’t care what you call them. They know their assignment from God. They are living what they have song about since 2000 when they hit the scene with Shackles.
Did you know they wrote a couple of books too? Yep, their autobiographies in 2003 and in 2010 they released, Be U published through Simon & Schuster. I loved the book Be U: Be Honest, Be Beautiful, Be Intentional, Be Strong, Be You! It is a good book especially for young ladies.
Now the lyrics for GO GET IT have set them apart from every Gospel group out there, even contemporary Gospel pioneer Kirk Franklin! But it’s all good, cause it’s their TIME.
Here are the hot lyrics:
It’s like you’re looking through a telescope you see where you gone be
Growing getting better you’re not the person they see
Can’t be mad at the things you been through cuz they built yo muscle
Now you’re stronger than you’ve ever been they can’t stop yo hustle
Yo Faith ain’t never small that’s what brought you this far
See you got your dreams and you got your prayers and you got Yo God he gone take you there
See everybody has a season and I believe this one’s yours
Cuz you been workin, waitin, this what you been prayin for
Go get it, Go Get it, Go get it, Go get it, Go get it
Go get yo blessing
Go get it, Go get it, Go get it, Go get it, Go get it, Go get it
It’s yo time, it’s yo time, it’s yo time, it’s yo time
You were made to live a good life and that’s what I believe
So hit the floor say a prayer start working you got to do something
It’s alright to crawl before you walk it’s alright to walk before you run
But if you wanna get what you never got gotta do something that you never done
I just love them! They are Christians.
They are fly. They are blowing up!
Cuz THEY been workin, waitin, this what THEY been prayin for!
Don’t hate, celebrate. And, go get yours!
