Go Ahead, Indulge!
Forget what you’ve heard. Research shows that chocolate does a body (and your skin) good. We’re not talking about your vending machine favorites. Studies show that dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher) is actually good for your health inside and out. Cocoa beans, what chocolate is made of, contains flavonoids and antioxidants that promotes heart health, by increasing your blood flow and improving bad cholesterol, and reducing blood pressure.
There’s also a reason why there are certain days that just a bite of chocolate seems to make all things right with the world. That’s because the smell of chocolate has been linked to endorphins and chemicals in the brain that boost not only your mood, but your memory. The benefits don’t stop there.
Chocolate is increasingly being used in skin care products and spa treatments. Is it a gimmick? Not at all. The cocoa bean breaks down free radicals, which means it contains anti-oxidants and has anti-aging capabilities.
If you’re concerned about weight or binging, don’t be. Dark chocolate is very rich in flavor and has a lot less sugar than milk chocolate, so a little goes a long way.
So the next time you visit the spa, have the chocolate facial. Or if you get that craving for chocolate, go ahead have a bite. It’s good for you—inside and out!
