Create Your Persona, Push Those Buttons, Brand Like a Superstar
You know I’ve worked with a lot of high-marque authors and “gospel celebrities” – and that’s what I do as a PR professional.
Not star struck. Just business.
Unlike my teenage daughter, who was tells me all the time about what Kim Kardashian is “tweeting” or “instagramming.”
I asked her, “Why do you care about what Kim Kardashian is doing?”
She said, “Well, she just posted from Paris a picture of her dinner. I don’t personally know anyone else who is traveling to Paris that’s posting pictures.”
Oh, I see.
But to me, it’s all about perception. It’s all about a brand.
It’s about how to shape opinions. And engage an audience. To appear authentic.
Kim Kardashian is smart. She knows how to work her BRAND – beauty and brains.
Smart enough to know how to push those social media buttons to build a “famous” persona in minds of millions with ONE TWEET.
Amazing. But you know what? Any ordinary person is just one click away from awesome too.
Here are some tips to get your social media swag and brand like a superstar:
1. Make sure your email signature has your vitals and everyone you write or reply to an email you are “tooting” your own horn. Put your awards or honors, your fabulous website, or a quote from a “raving” fan.

2. Have a real website. If you want to taken seriously, don’t have a website that screams, “Free” or one that looks like bad “do-it-yourself” project. Before you put up the website, write a strategy. Make sure it doesn’t look cheap or cheesy. And please NO flash. And have it optimized.
3. Fill out all your Social Media Profiles. Be consistent. Have a great photo. Great bio. And add links to all your places online. To save time, connect your social media sites together. For instance, when you blog, have it automatically set to go to your twitter and when it hits your twitter, set it so it goes to your Linkedin account. Or when you post to your “Fan” page, have it automatically go to twitter. Same for Instagram. Connect those accounts so it hits your Tumblr, Posterous, Flickr and Facebook. That’s the secret to being seen everywhere – easily and quickly.
Finally, have something to say. Add value. Be interesting. Connect with thought leaders. Be authentic. Keep conversations going that show your “superstar” quality.
From there, you’ll get invited to speak, get media exposure, get new clients, sell products – and live the fabulous life – just by being, living and pushing your BRAND.
