Looking Forward To Summer Fun

When my children were younger, hanging out in the backyard, skipping rocks in a nearby pond, or swinging in the park was the best time ever. Now that they’re older, it’s more of a challenge to keep them entertained during summer vacation.

Each of my children have their individual idea of fun, and what’s boring. I’m up for the challenge of finding a happy medium to find age appropriate fun everyone can be at least somewhat happy with. This is what I’ve come up with…

Fishing: Last weekend we participated in a fishing derby. I say we but the kids (two of them) fished, while I made digital memories…  pictures. Fishing is inexpensive, and can be loads of fun, that is if there is at least one person willing to bait the hook, and unhook the fish after they’re caught. Cleaning is a different ball game.

Bowling: A bowling alley in our neck of the woods offers discounted passes for kids, as well as free games after buying two. My children think they can’t bowl without friends. The more the merrier.

Bike Hike: Nearly an hour away, a bike shop offers bike hike tours. When I read this, I immediately put it on our list of things to do. Even if the kids won’t, my friend has already agreed. I’m very excited!

Water parks: There are several water parks within an hour, to an hour and a half, from where we live. They range from large to just big enough.

Zoo: No matter how old you get, the zoo is always fun, and educational of course. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve visited our local zoo, and they’ve added a few new exhibits, including penguins. The train ride is a must!

Heifer International Ranch: During our Spring break staycation a couple of years ago, I was really excited about visiting the Heifer Ranch, but my family wasn’t interested. This summer, I’m dragging them kicking and screaming if I have to!

Of course this is a “summer wish list,” of things I’d like to get to do. With one down, and five to go, and approximately two months of summer vacation left… I’d better get to it! What are your summer plans?
