Social Media is NOT Public Relations, So What’s the Point?

Social media is about many things: engagement, story-telling, and relationships -but mainly, as of today, SEO. It’s all about the SEARCH.

Can you be found – out of all the clutter and messaging, is your content optimized
where your ideal audience (and those who are interested in your subject) can find you?

When they “google” you to check you out, are they finding enough information
to cure the curiosity and build their trust.  CONTENT IS KING. Old content, new
content and everything in between. It’s like feeding a hungry animal – CONTENT
is the Search Engines FOOD.

It’s all about social proof. People want to see how many friends, fans, and followers
you have. They want to see how many views, likes or “thumbs up.”

It matters.
It is the new marketing method and corporations are paying attention…big time.

In social media, people want to see you engaging and being relevant. They want to
see a real HUMAN – not an ad, not a brand, not an automated tweet or status update.

That’s why some companies “don’t get” social media. They think of it as another
advertising channel or broadcast media vehicle. It is not.

Social media is powerful – and it cannot really be controlled. It is strategic -
but it is not like public relations – it is dynamic and forever moving. “The people”
determine validity of your online presence. Your message will go viral if you
connect – and are consistent – and provide VALUABLE content. Remarkable
content – that’s what gets shared.  The more you share, the more people care.

Bottom line:
The purpose of social media is communication – and to connect the
message with the people.  The messaging is filtered and tailored from
the communications strategy – but it is fluid – and well, social.

So, yes, social media is a great way to promote, brand and build
awareness – but it first has to be “noticed” and the search engines
will find you – and people will share you…and YOU will get MEDIA.

The more often you share and engage, the more “traction” you’ll receive.

The SEARCH is always on.

Building backlinks is what SEO lives for
and lives online forever.
